Ag Empowered: a name, a tagline, and a brand for a compliance expert going independent
A compliance expert in the agriculture industry struck out on her own and needed everything: a business name, a tagline, and a logo that would let a one-person consultancy stand next to much larger firms.
Goal
A friend contacted me to help build a brand for her new venture into agricultural consulting. She was starting from scratch and needed not just a logo but the name and tagline to go with it — the whole identity, before she had a single client.
Approach
The brand had to convey expertise and professionalism from day one, because a solo consultant is competing against firms with letterhead and history. The name came quickly: Ag Empowered. Her work would empower small growers to operate at a level of compliance normally reserved for much larger companies with much larger budgets, and the name says that in two words.
From there I designed a bespoke brand stamp with a slight western character and slender lines — agricultural without being rustic, precise without being cold. The goal was a mark that would look at home on a document going to a major retailer's food safety team and on a truck door in a field.
Results
She launched with a complete identity rather than a placeholder logo, which meant her first impression with growers and buyers was of an established practice rather than a new one. For a solo consultant selling expertise, looking credible before you have a track record is most of the battle.
