A presentation system for the most important twenty minutes of a sales cycle
Sales presentations land at the most critical point in a buying journey. I designed a system that could carry both straightforward sales content and dense technical material without the slides collapsing under it.
The brief
In smaller organizations the marketing department is a one-stop shop for every material need. I was asked to provide sales support and design a smart way to present both sales content and much more complex technical content — in the same deck, to the same room, without losing anyone.
Approach
The presentation is used at the highest-stakes moment in the buying journey, which means it has two jobs that pull against each other: it has to be impressive, and it has to be legible while someone is talking over it.
My rule was to keep the aesthetic cohesive throughout and the slides uncluttered, with content broken into consumable pieces — one idea per slide, animated to arrive in the order the presenter says it. Dense technical material got the most restraint, not the least, because that is where an audience is most likely to disengage.
Results
A deck the sales team could actually present from, and a system they could extend for new material without it drifting off-brand within a quarter.
